Where Chaplin meets Tchaikovsky
At Schërzo, Släpstick's quirky, whirlwind and hilarious take on classical music, nothing is what it seems. The four musical all-rounders take you on a crazy trip along the masterpieces of Rossini, Brahms, Schubert, Saint-Saëns, Gershwin and many other illustrious composers. In his inimitable way, Släpstick plays the great classics and, en passant, honours comedy heroes such as Victor Borge, Mini & Maxi, Danny Kaye and Charlie Chaplin.
Where the musical term 'scherzo' (Italian for jest, joke) stands for a short, lively piece, Släpstick likes to stretch this definition a bit further with Schërzo. Because when physical theatre and top musicians with a great sense of timing and humour come together, you can expect a yodelling Schubert in a ventriloquism battle with Beethoven, a speed demon on the double bass and, of course, the '21 masterpieces in 1 minute'.
Experience for yourself now the boundless universe of Släpstick, with their dizzying array of instruments, acclaimed theatrical inventions and classical music at the highest level.
With previous theatre shows Släpstick and The Roaring Twenties, the musical clowns of Släpstick caused a furore nationally and internationally. Resulting in sold-out venues from the Netherlands to New Zealand, ovational applause and a rain of awards. Släpstick's new show Schërzo celebrated its world premiere in Edinburgh in the summer of 2023, followed by concerts in Germany and South Korea. In spring 2025, this classic show will premiere in concert halls and theatres in the Netherlands.
